Minister meets with Japanese Ambassador2017-01-25
Today, Minister of Environment Kęstutis Navickas has met with Toyoei Shigeeda, Japanese Ambassador to Lithuania.
During the meeting, the Minister noted that he highly appreciated Japan’s contribution to sustainable development and efforts to create the public good, and a responsible and sensitive approach towards the environment by participating in solutions designed for preventing climate change. Kęstutis Navickas stressed that the Lithuanian-Japanese cooperation in the sphere of the environment and innovative technologies should continue, although the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant project which had been the responsibility of the company Hitachi was in the state of ‘freeze’. In the Minister’s opinion, contacts should be strengthened with the representative office of this company in Lithuania, especially as Hitachi has great expertise in the implementation of environmental programmes.
According to Kęstutis Navickas, Japan’s support is of particular importance as Lithuania is seeking membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
