Energy efficiency is of particular importance for achieving sustainable objectives2016-11-11
On 9 November, Vice-Minister of Environment Daiva Matonienė took part in the 7th Strategy Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region ‘One Region, One Future – Vision 2030 for the Baltic Sea Region’. This is a high-level political session of leaders discussing the sustainable development questions of the states in the Baltic Sea region. The achievements of Lithuania in the energy efficiency sector towards attaining the sustainable development objectives were also presented at the forum.
The Baltic Sea region has a great potential for becoming a pilot region for the joint implementation of the vision 2030. Signing a declaration on sustainable development in the Baltic Sea region, the countries of the Baltic region reaffirmed their commitment to ensure the sustainable development of the Baltic Sea region and agreed to draw up an action plan for the successful implementation of the vision 2030. Some of the most important questions of the session were also related to the consistency of state policies as the process of achieving sustainable development requires a successful integration of the economic, ecological and social policy aspects.
The Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is the first macro-regional strategy in the European Union focused on a speedy resolution of problems arising and the strengthening of the region with joint efforts. The annual forum is one of the major events of the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region organised by the European Commission in cooperation with a member state that holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, and with the Secretariat of the Council of the Baltic Sea States. The aim of the forum is to bring together all the parties concerned and promote the forms of their mutual cooperation in particular joint action areas.
