Most creative architects receive awards2016-09-26
At the 10th Urban Development Forum last Friday in Kaunas, Minister Kęstutis Trečiokas presented awards of the Ministry of Environment for the 2015 creative achievements in the field of urban development and architecture.
The proposals for the awards included 15 facilities in three specified categories built last year, among them non-residential, residential and innovative buildings. The candidates were proposed by the Lithuanian Union of Architects, the Lithuanian Chamber of Architects and the municipality administrations of Anykščiai distr., Kaunas City and Panevėžys City.
In the opinion of the jury that consisted of representatives of the Ministry of Environment, the Lithuanian Union of Architects, the Lithuanian Chamber of Architects, the Union of Restorers, the Union of Landscape Architects and the Lithuanian Green Building Council, the architects deserving the award for the best non-residential building were Jurgis Rimvydas Palys and Ieva Jurgita Palytė Veilandienė. They were awarded for the search and rescue station of the Air Force base at the S. Darius and S. Girėnas aerodrome in Kaunas.
Architects Aidas Kalinauskas and Vaidas Tamošiūnas received the award for the best residential building, a villa in the dunes.
According to the jury, Antanas Gvildys and Aleksandras Gvildys, Steen Enrico Andersen, Virginija Kazlauskaitė, Sandra Paškevičienė and Edimtas Šimeliūnas were the authors of the best innovative facility – the class A office building K29 in Vilnius.
The award of the Ministry of Environment for creative achievements in the field of urban development and architecture was established in 2007. It is designed to promote the creative activities of Lithuanian architects, and evaluate the achievements and the significance of a realised work of architecture for the socio-cultural life of the country.
