Extraction of oil resources declined last year2016-01-15
Over almost a quarter of a century (from 1999 to 2015), Lithuania extracted 4 523 000 tonnes of oil. Compared to 2014, oil extraction in 2015 declined by 10 pct. from 82 000 to 74 000 tonnes.
Last year, oil was extracted from 69 wells in 15 thoroughly explored oil fields (Girkaliai, Kretinga, Nausodis, Agluonėnai, Vėžaičiai, Ližiai, Ablinga, Vilkyčiai, Pociai, Diegliai, Sakučiai, South Šiūpariai, Šiūpariai, Genčai and Šilalė). Although 7 companies have been granted permits for the use of hydrocarbons in Lithuania, only five of them extract oil from fields on land.
In 2015, one oil extraction well with a branch, and two oil exploration wells were drilled. Also exploration for conventional hydrocarbons was launched using the 3D seismic survey method in the new Kudirka-Kybartai license area of conventional hydrocarbons. Exploration works are to continue in 2016 as well.
This year the oil companies plan to drill two new oil extraction wells and six hydrocarbons exploration wells, and to carry out extraction stimulation works in 8 wells.
