ABC on environmental protection, starting with youngest children2015-11-06
What is an ant’s life, what can we do to protect their habitat, what is the right way to fence an anthill? Answers to these questions were offered to children attending the environmentally friendly kindergarten Po smilgom in Vilnius, their teachers and parents alike, gathered at a campaign dedicated to ring fencing of anthills at the kindergarten last Tuesday. All the attendants, led by Selemonas Paltanavičius, senior specialist at the Communication Division of the Ministry of Environment, together fenced the anthills found in the vicinity of the kindergarten.
This campaign is just another lesson on environmental protection run in kindergartens and schools by the Ministry of the Environment. These lessons offer an opportunity for children to discover how to ring-fence anthills, put up a bird house, repair stork nests, protect the trees from beavers, and many more things helping interaction with nature. Those teachers and parents who choose to attend these lessons often admit their own need to learn the fundamentals of environmental protection.
