New sport utility vehicles for environmentalists2015-07-09
On 9 July, some new vehicles were added to the car fleet of environmentalists. The new sport utility vehicles have been transferred to the Regional Environmental Protection Departments (REPD), the State Environmental Protection Service and the Environmental Protection Agency.
The environmentalists’ car fleet has received a total of 40 new Isuzu D-Max Double Cab vehicles. According to Minister of Environment, Kęstutis Trečiokas, who participated in the car transfer event, the modern vehicles will enable officers to respond to reports more quickly and help to discover environmental offences and identify offenders.
‘The key advantages of these vehicles are economy, on-road and off-road ability and novelty. Now officers in all Lithuania will be able to access with ease such more difficult places as shores of water bodies, forests and meadows. The results of their work should improve as well,’ said the Minister.
The largest number of the vehicles or eight cars will we transferred to the Klaipėda REPD, the Šiauliai and Vilnius REPDs will each receive five cars, and four cars will go to each the Kaunas REPD and the State Environmental Protection Service. The rest will be transferred to other Regional Environmental Protection Departments and the Environmental Protection Agency.
The vehicles have been purchased as part of the implementation of the project ‘Strengthening of the Environmental Monitoring and State Environmental Control Systems’ funded with the European Union money. The value of the project is EUR 1 061 245.13. The vehicles have been purchase from the company Autoverslo Automobiliai UAB based in Vilnius.
