European ministers are in favour of territorial democracy in spatial planning2014-06-20
To promote territorial democracy in spatial planning – this was one of the key objectives outlined in the declaration adopted at the Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for territorial planning. This conference was held in Nafplio, Greece, on 17 June.
According to Aleksandras Gordevičius, Head of the Spatial Planning Division of the Territorial Planning, Urban Development and Architecture Department at the Ministry of Environment, who attended the conference, the declaration sets forth the main principles outlining the approach to problems related to the participation in the territorial planning process.
Having discussed the cooperation between European countries in the field of territorial planning, the conference participants evaluated positively its results and decided that it is necessary to further continue this cooperation. Moreover, it was also decided to complete the preparation of the Guide for the Public Participation in Territorial Planning.
This Council of Europe conference of Ministers responsible for territorial planning completed the three-year period of the Greek Presidency. Now the rotating presidency has been taken over by Romania.
