The National Environmental Protection strategic project has been prepared2014-04-23
The Ministry of Environment has prepared its National Environmental Protection strategic project. This document defines fundamental environmental protection policies and goals up until 2030.
The biggest difference between the environment and other economic sectors is that it requires policies with long-term perspective. The main long-term environmental planning document that has been in effect for the last 18 years is the National Environmental Protection strategy that the Seimas approved in 1996. During this time period, Lithuania's economic and demographic situations and environmental quality have changed. New factors have appeared that influence the environment and its resources. The National Environmental Protection Strategy must be fundamentally renewed.
The effectiveness of different measures in the environmental field can often only be observed after many years, so the sooner that long-term environmental protection policy aims are set, the more effective, rational and sustainable the nation's answers to various environmental protection and national economic questions will become.
The environmental protection policy aims detailed in the prepared strategy will help businesses plan their work, long-term investments, and the installation of progressive technologies more purposefully and rationally. The strategy will also facilitate better conditions for the creation of livable surroundings. The strategic project can be viewed in the attachment.
