The Lithuanian pavilion project at the world EXPO will be selected out of a total of 27 tenders

2014-03-06

The organizers of the simplified open tendering procedure for the Lithuanian pavilion project at the 2015 world EXPO in Milan received a record amount of tenders – 27 conceptual projects were submitted. After the evaluation committee voted, a list of the best projects was compiled (see attached). The first on this list is the “Balansas” project by UAB “JAS” (21.03 votes), second – the “LT Lithuanian Table” project by UAB “Mart Pro” (19.93 votes), and third – “Sveiks, svieteli margs!” by Saulius Gecas (19.73).

General commissioner of the Lithuanian exposition at the EXPO 2015 world fair and head of the Ministry of Environment's Exhibition division Romas Jankauskas said that the order of these projects is not final. The order may change when the tender participants' qualifications are checked. If the evaluation committee finds that any of the information submitted is incomplete or inaccurate, the projects' creators will be asked to correct this. In the event that a tender participant's qualifications fail to meet the tender's requirements, their project will be rejected. The process of checking participants' qualification information may take two weeks. Fifteen more days will be given to submit claims, and a final decision will be made only after any claims are investigated.

The winners of the tender will receive monetary prizes. The first-place winner will receive 12 thousand Lt, second place will receive 7 thousand Lt, and third place will receive 3 thousand Lt. A contract will be formed with the creator of the winning project to prepare a technical project and to oversee its execution.

Public discussions of the tender's works were held in Kaunas, Klaipeda, Šiauliai and Vilnius, and the projects could be viewed online as well. The projects were evaluated by a commission that included Lithuanian Architect Union chairman Gintautas Blažiūnas, Dean of the Faculty of Archtecture at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Rimantas Buivydas, architects Rolandas Palekas and Marius Šaliamoras, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences professor and ethnologist Libertas Klimka, Italy-based journalist Paulius Jurkevičius, television anchor and “Pasimatymas su Lietuva” author Edita Mildažytė, and representatives from the Ministry of Environment, which organized the tender.

To date, our country has officially participated in ten world expositions. The Lithuanian Pavilion at EXPO 2012 in South Korea received a silver medal from the International Exhibitions Bureau. Lithuania was presented no less impressively at the world exhibitions in China and Japan.

After a longer break, the world exhibitions have returned to Europe. It is believed that more than 140 nations from around the world will participate at EXPO 2015, which will be visited by 30 million people from the old continent and all over the world.
