Minister thanks the presidency team2014-01-07
On the 6th of January, the Ministry of Environment held an event to sum up the six months of Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union and to recall the successful moments from that period. The Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis handed out certificates of appreciation for the most valuable contributions to the presidency to 120 members of the ministry including the environment attaché, leaders of working groups and experts as well as heads of departments and divisions that played an important role in ensuring success during the presidency.
“I am glad that today we can already sum up the half-year presidency of the Council of the European Union and the whole preparation period, which had taken several years. Although it was the first time that Lithuania held this role, it was, indeed, productive. The Ministry of Environment had one of the most strained agendas and contributed to a myriad of events,” Minister Mazuronis said. He called to use the experience gained from international events for future developments in Lithuania.
During Lithuania’s EU presidency the Ministry of Environment ran more than 150 events in Vilnius, Brussels and other cities across the EU and its task was to ensure that the interests of EU member states are properly represented at 15 international environmental events. Within a short time, it reached successful agreement on six important environmental laws.
