Commission will announce a repeat competition for shale prospecting and extraction2013-10-29
On October 29th, the Hydrocarbon Resource Usage Commission met at the Ministry of Environment and decided to declare the Šilutė-Tauragė plot shale gas prospecting and extraction competition void.
“The commission’s decision is just a formal step. The competition can no longer be continued because the only participant has withdrawn,” - said Vice-minister of Environment Daiva Matonienė.
On August 16th, the commission recommended that the government recognize UAB “Chevron Exploration & Production Lietuva” as the winner of the Šilutė-Tauragė plot shale gas prospecting and extraction competition.
“We weighed the possibility of holding a repeat hydrocarbon prospecting competition. We entrusted the Lithuanian Geological Service with evaluating the now-changed legal and tax environment and submitting the documents needed to organize a new competition,” - said D. Matonienė.
„I think that we've made the right choice. By refusing to look for shale gas or oil, we would be making the wrong decision in terms of Lithuania's interests,” - said Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis on the commission's decision.
