Twice as much received for amateur fisherman licenses2013-10-28
As of the 28th of October, 5.1 mil. Lt have been received for amateur fishing licenses. This sum is twice as large as that received last year (2.4 mil. Lt).
“These numbers allow us to come to the conclusion that our fishermen are becoming more disciplined and that fishing culture in Lithuania is improving,” - said Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis. According to the minister, this conclusion is also supported by the falling number of poachers in the nation. This was influenced in no small part by 10 times larger fines for damage to the environment and much stricter environmental protection control.
The money received for selling amateur fishing licenses goes towards one thing only – replenishing and protecting the nation's fish reserves. More than 400,000 fish will be introduced to our waters this year – pike, catfish, perch, tench, carp, big-headed carp and grass carp will be stocked at more than 60 bodies of water in Lithuania.
Amateur fishermen from other countries have begun coming to Lithuania as well. This year, they purchased roughly 500 amateur fishermen's licenses to fish salmon.
