V. Mazuronis: apartment building residents trust the new renovation model

2013-09-27

Today the Ministry of environment announced the results of the second renovation stage, during which the nation’s municipalities were invited to submit applications for apartment buildings that had not made it into the first stage of the program and for those that had been chosen for renewal. 58 municipalities, with almost 1,700 apartment buildings on file, expressed their interest in participating in the second stage of the program.

“I have to admit that the results were a pleasant surprise. This number is a clear indication that we are going in the right direction – apartment building residents believe in the new renovation model,” – said Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis.

The Skuodas and Kalvarijos regional municipalities, which did not participate in the first renovation stage, joined the second stage of renovations. Vilnius City Municipality (with 211 applications submitted), Kaunas City Municipality (with 95 applications submitted), Marijampolė City Municipality (with 65 apartment buildings) and Alytus City Municipality (with 31 apartment buildings) were the most active applicants out of Lithuania’s larger cities. Some of the smaller municipalities interested in renovations included the Kaunas Regional (85 apartment buildings), Mažeikiai Regional (82 apartment buildings), Palanga City (57 apartment buildings), Jurbarkas regional (50 apartment buildings) and Varėnos Regional (45 apartment buildings) municipalities.

According to Home Energy Conservation Agency director Valius Serbenta, the municipalities had much to do with the acceleration of the renovation’s processes. “I am sure that the inclusion of the municipalities in the new apartment building modernization program was one of the best decisions in terms of reviving the renovation effort. Thanks to close cooperation between the Ministry of Energy, Home Energy Conservation Agency, municipalities and residents, we now have almost 1,700 apartment buildings whose residents have expressed their interest in renovations,” – confirmed Vice-Minister of Environment Daiva Matonienė.

56 municipalities are participating in the first stage of the new renovation model, which began in March of this year. For the first stage, the Ministry of Environment chose more than 800 of the least energy-efficient apartment buildings. As of the 26th of September, 2013, more than 600 of these have prepared investment projects, more than 300 have held meetings to confirm investment plans, and 276 have agreed to these plans, meaning that they will soon be ready to purchase contracting work.
