Over LTL 75 million already paid to environmental project operators this year

In the first quarter of this year, the Environmental Project Management Agency of the Ministry of Environment (EPMA) paid LTL 75.5 million to project operators, thus fulfilling its quarterly plan 103%. According to EPMA Director Kastytis Tuminas, the value of signed contracts financed from the EU structural funds grew to LTL 2.9 billion over this period.

Some of the largest projects to be implemented under the contracts signed in the first quarter are water management and water treatment projects. Their implementation will help to modernise and expand the water supply and waste water management infrastructure in Raseiniai, Lazdijai, Šakiai and Radviliškis districts.

LTL 3.7 million worth of financing and management agreements has been signed for the purpose of improving the status of the country’s water bodies. The largest projects will be implemented in the Trakai district municipality to improve the ecological status of Lake as well as clear the River Lėvuo in Pasvalys district and its pond in Pasvalys town.

EU financial support will also help to clean up areas contaminated in the past. One of them is the territory of the former Elnias shoe and leather factory in Šiauliai. For the purpose of cleaning it, the EPMA has signed one more financing and management agreement with the City Municipal Government Administration. The implementation of this project will help to clean up the landscape and protect ground water against contamination with hazardous substances.
