Interests of Lithuania regarding the Ozone Layer Protection in the EU position2011-12-02
The 23rd Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP 23) took place in . The meeting was attended by the Head of the Department Chemical Substances of the Ministry of Environment Marija Teriosina, who worked together with colleagues from institutions of the European Union and the member states.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding projects on submitted solutions, contact groups were formed according to areas of interest and bilateral and multilateral meetings were organized among representatives of member states. Representatives of the countries of the European Union will regularly work in coordinating meetings, during which the presiding member state will form the overall position of the EU.
Intensive work in such international forums has served the purpose – during the period when took part in the meetings of the Montreal Protocol, decisions were made regarding allocation of support of more than 5 million US dollars to implement the requirements, regarding the transitional period and a write-off of ’s debt of more than 300 000 US dollars, etc.
The Montreal Protocol is very dynamic. It is constantly improved depending on the progress made or arising problems while implementing the requirements, scientific and technical achievements, etc. Some issues are consecutively discussed at several meetings and bear a continuity aspect, therefore it is important to be constantly involved in the process.
