Head of Lithuanian Meteorologists elected the Vice-President of the European region2011-12-02
As announced by the secretariat of the World Meteorological Association (WMA), Vida Augulienė, the director of the Hydrometeorological Service at the Ministry of Environment, was elected the Vice-President of the European region of the World Meteorological Association.
The World Meteorological Association is a specialised agency of the United Nations. Currently it has a membership of 189 member states and territories. The WMA convention was signed in 1947 and ratified in 1950. joined this convention in 1992.
The guidelines of the WMA policy are set by the world meteorological congress which is summoned every four years. Its decisions are implemented by the Executive Council, which meets annually. The current president of the association of the European region is the director of the Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Croatia Ivan ČAČIĆ. The new vice-president Vida Augulienė will support him in managing the activities of the region. As the director of the Hydrometeorological Service of Lithuania said, her election as the vice-president of WMA European regional association provides additional opportunities to strengthen the role of hydrometeorology in the international society of hydrometeorologists.
