State Forest Service participating in development of European IS on Forest Genetic Resources
Specialists of the Genetic Resources Department of the State Forest Service have fulfilled their obligations in the EUFGIS project created by Bioversity International and EUFORGEN groups.
EUFGIS (European Information System on Forest Genetic Resources) is a publicly available information system containing data on the forest genetic resources of 35 European countries participating in the project. The project is designed to help European countries to develop a sustainable forest economy by improving the methods and measures of preservation of forest genetic resources.
The database contains information defining most of forest genetic resources criteria. These include taxation data on plots of land, farming regime, applied measures and objectives of preservation of forest genetic resources, cartographic material, etc.
On 25 May 2010, the EUFGIS system already included information on 1,849 plots of forest genetic resources and 147 species of trees growing there. The Service has provided information on 153 forest genetic reserves for the project. The official website of EUFGIS is http://www.eufgis.org.
