Creation of Joint European Environmental Information System2008-10-06
The Environmental Protection Agency is organizing a seminar ”Global Environment Information Systems: Challenges for Lithuania” in Vilnius on October 23.
The European Environmental Agency and Lithuanian institutions and organizations will take part in the event. Seminar participants will get to know European global information systems, as well as the European Commission initiative on the improved and simplified process of environmental data collection, analysis and supply for the creation of the common European information system SEIS (Shared Environmental Information System).
“Our goal is to discuss Lithuania’s participation in the European environmental information system,” said Aldona Margerienė, vicepresident of the Environmental Protection Agency. “It is also important to discuss the possible interests of Lithuanian institutions in the Intergovernmental group for Global Earth Observation (GEO),” she added.
During the seminar, the Environmental Protection Agency will be making a presentation entitled “The Legal Regulation of Environmental Information Provision and Cooperation Among Institutions”. The agency will release information on the implementation of the GEO 10 year plan in the period 2007-2009 and will present for discussion the proposed GEO action plan for 2009-2011.
Further debates are planned on the issues to be presented. Seminar results and other final documents will be prepared by the European Environmental Agency and the Lithuanian Environmental Protection Agency.
