EU environmental support to new members discussed in Vilnius2008-08-18
On Thursday, 21 September, the Ministry of Environment organizes an international conference “Use of EU structural funds for the environmental sector. Experience and perspectives of EU countries”. The conference will start at 9:30 am at the Best Western Vilnius hotel and will last for two days.
During the conference, Lithuanian representatives will present progress made by our country in implementing environmental projects financed by the EU. According to Inesis Kiškis, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, a total of LTL 113.3 mln was allocated for environmental projects in the period from 2004 to 2006. About 75 percent of the total amount was received in the form of EU financial support, and the remaining funds weretaken from the state budget. 92 percent of the mentioned funds have already been used and 74 pprojects of the total of 101 have already been implemented. The results of the most important projects – seaside management, management and supervision of protected territories and water resource conservation – will be presented to the conference participants in detail.
The EU support for the environment of Slovenia, Poland, Estia, Chezh Respublic, Latvia and Hungary will be discussed by representatives of those countries.
