Environmental impact assessment of proposed economic activities: made decisions, performed screening
Environmental Impact Assessment of plannned economic activities: made decisions, performed screening
2007-12-20
One of the goals of the environmental impact assessment shall be to optimise the planning and designing process in order to avoid environmentally unfriendly site screening, technical, technological, construction and exploitation decisions. The environmental impact assessment identified, describes and assesses potential direct and indirect impact on the environment.
The competent authority (the Environmental Protection Agency and regional environment protection departments) has information about the planned activity and the site, and establishes whether it is necessary to perform the environmental impact assessment of the specific planned economic activity; where the competent authority has information about the planned activity, the potential significant environmental impact of that activity and opportunities to reduce this impact, and where it is familiar with the public opinion, it shall make a decision regarding the admissibility of the activity in the selected site.
The completed environmental impact assessments of planned economic activities demonstrate the regional distribution of investment projects. The number of major planned economic activities that may have a significant environmental impact and that are subject to environmental impact assessment procedures is increasing in all regions every year. At the same time the likelihood of anthropogenic impact on the environment also increases.
