Meeting with the Ambassador of the UAE on cooperation and the upcoming World EXPO 20182018-01-19
Today, Minister of Environment Kęstutis Navickas has held a meeting with Dr. Yousif Eisa Hassan Al Sabri, United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Lithuania, and discussed cooperation between the two countries in the fields of sustainable development and climate change mitigation as well as the preparation for the World EXPO to be held in Dubai in 2020.
Kęstutis Navickas presented to the Ambassador the key tasks and strategies of the Ministry in implementing the Climate Change Action Programme, carrying out general planning of the country’s territories, and promoting alternative energy and circular economy. According to the Minister, Lithuania’s achievements in these fields will be presented in the World EXPO in Dubai, the main theme of which is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
Dr. Yousif Eisa Hassan Al Sabri took pleasure in the fact that the Government entrusted the organisation of Lithuania’s participation in this Exhibition to the Ministry of Environment which oversees a great number of fields and which has accumulated the extensive experience of participation in world exhibitions. The Ambassador promised to help build tighter links with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of his country and incited Minister Kęstutis Navickas participate in the Dubai Global City Programme.
Dubai was awarded the right to organise the EXPO in November 2013. It will be one of the biggest world exhibitions of all times. There is only a thousand of days left until its opening. The exhibition will be held from 20 October 2020 until 20 April 2021. Besides, the United Arab Emirates will commemorate the 50th anniversary of its state in 2021.
The hopes are that this world exhibition will have 180 participants and will attract around 25 million of visitors in six months. At this exhibition, Lithuania intends to present its achievements in the fields of innovative technologies, sustainable transport development, use of renewable energy resources, etc.
