New approach to territorial management – international seminar in Vilnius

An international seminar on the new approach to territorial management will be held in the Great Hall of the Ministry of Environment (A. Jakšto St. 4) next Friday, on 17 November, at 10:00. It will be organised by the Construction and Spatial Planning Department of the Ministry of Environment and the European Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON), the aim of which is to support the formation of spatial development policy in Europe.

During the seminar, multi-stage spatial planning and its links with public administration, administrative reforms and spatial planning, etc. will be analysed. The plans are to provide particular attention to the Baltic countries.

According to the ESPON survey, Latvia has already implemented territorial administrative and management reforms, Estonia is currently in the process of implementation, and Lithuania considers the need for such reforms. The representatives of all the three Baltic countries will review their national spatial and administrative structures, cooperation models, key challenges and implemented or planned administrative reforms. Specialists from the Construction and Spatial Planning Department of the Ministry of Environment will introduce the objectives of the preparation of the master plan of the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.

Furthermore, the ESPON experience will be presented; the plans are to discuss the results of the comparative analysis between territorial management and spatial/territorial planning as well as the deliverables of the projects, regional strategies and integrated territorial development and planning in the area of territorial cooperation.

During discussions with the seminar participants, the ESPON representatives will try to reply how the results of these projects can be adapted for the formation of national policy and other matters relevant to the EU countries.
