Joint efforts to develop a new general plan of the Lithuanian territory2017-10-24
The Ministry of the Environment invites Lithuanian and foreign spatial planning experts to take part in the development of a new general plan of the Lithuanian territory.
This national-level plan of changes by resolution of the Government will be developed not only to provide for a completely new long-term vision of the country but also to reduce the number of current strategies and integrate their solutions into the new plan. The organisation task was assigned to the Ministry of the Environment.
According to Marius Narmontas, director of the Construction and Spatial Planning Department of the Ministry of the Environment, the plan will be developed in three stages. At first, the current situation will be evaluated; secondly, a concept will be developed; and specific solutions will be developed during the final stage. The plan should be developed by 2020.
The first stage of development of the plan has started already. Information about the procurement for the part including analysis and evaluation of the current situation of the general plan of the Lithuanian territory was published on the central public procurement website. Applications to take part in the procurement may be submitted by 8 November.
The general plan of the territory of the Republic of Lithuania covers the following key issues: the country’s demographic and social development; landscape changes; natural processes; geological conditions; technical, environmental, and heritage protection issues; particularities of use and management of land and sea territories; interrelations of the land and sea territories; national security and defence needs; urban structure; engineering and social infrastructure system; recreational and other territorial structures; use of agricultural lands, forests, entrails of the earth, and other natural resources; and development of economic activities.
